France isn’t just famous for cheese and wine—it’s also home to some of the most delicious and charming snacks. If you’re visiting France with kids, don’t miss the chance to explore their snack aisles! Here are five French treats that our middle schooler absolutely loved during our trip—and some that I personally enjoyed when I lived in Paris.
Back when I lived in Paris, I used to buy most of these snacks almost daily from the Franprix right below our apartment. They’re not only tasty but also part of everyday French life.
1. Gavottes Crêpe Dentelle
These delicate, crispy rolled crepes are a specialty from Brittany. Light, flaky, and often coated in chocolate, Gavottes are an elegant yet kid-friendly snack. Their melt-in-your-mouth crunch makes them perfect for coffee breaks or afternoon treats.
2. Saint Michel Galettes & Madeleines
Saint Michel is a beloved French brand known for buttery cookies (galettes) and soft, shell-shaped cakes (madeleines). They’re not too sweet and are individually packed—ideal for snacks on the go or lunchboxes during travel. Our family used to keep a box of these in the kitchen at all times.
3. LU Petit Écolier
This classic snack combines a crisp butter biscuit with a slab of rich milk chocolate on top. “Petit Écolier” means “little schoolboy,” and it’s long been a favorite among French kids. Simple, delicious, and something my child always looked forward to after school.
4. Biscuit Rose de Reims
These elegant pink biscuits from the Reims region are light, slightly sweet, and traditionally dipped in milk or juice. They’re not as commonly found outside France, but when you spot them, don’t hesitate—they make a beautiful and tasty gift.
5. BN Biscuits
With their playful smiley faces and creamy chocolate filling, BN biscuits are fun, sweet, and instantly lovable. I remember picking these up on busy days from Franprix—they were always a hit with the kids.
Travel tip: You’ll find all of these in regular French supermarkets like Franprix or Monoprix. Buy a few extra boxes to bring home—your kids (and maybe you) will thank you.
